CLIMBING HIGHER
There is an ancient proverb that says, "for every question there is an
answer, and for every answer there is another question."
As we traverse from the days of awe to the days of joy, we should remember that
every time we internalize a new spiritual truth and walk with God, we realize
that another, still higher form eludes us.
So it is a ladder that we climb.
There is a story of a child that was playing on a ladder with other children.
All the children climbed half way up, and he was the only child who climbed all
the way to the top.
Afterwards, his grandfather, who was standing by the window watching, asked him,
“Why is it that you were not afraid to climb to the top when all your friends
gave up?”
He answered, “Simple. I never looked down. I just kept looking up. When I saw
how I low I was that motivated me to climb higher.”
It’s a question of setting your sights. The difference between a human being and
an animal is that typically animals walk on all fours and never look up to
heaven. Human beings walk upright, and that means their heads are up and they
can look heavenward. As the Prophet Isaiah says, “Raise your eyes to on high and
behold who has created these things.” (Isaiah 40:26)
The fact that we can look up motivates us to continuously grow and climb higher
in order to transcend our lowly state.
In this holiday season we acquire all the tools we need for the entire year. But
it’s up to us to utilize them. Our relationship with God is not out of reach.
Our relationship with God is a partnership, a two-way street, and this is a
great reason to celebrate.
May we all grow into a new, deeper relationship with the Almighty as we climb
higher this holiday season.
Ask yourself: Are you ready to reach higher?
Are you ready to celebrate?
Exercise for the day:
-Even if you feel you have tried to reach for the next wrung before, try again.
This time celebrate as if you have already reached it. Sometimes your energy
comes when you praise the One you are reaching for.
